  Here is an embossed construction sign from former Hammond, Ind., mayor Edward C. Dowling (1956-1968) that was posted during reconstruction of the downtown area.

  These small porcelain signs were mounted at the bottom of telephone poles to warn of buried cable. These are widely available as reproductions, but many are still posted - you just have to look closely.
